We’ve ranked Assassin’s Creed games from best to worst.

The Assassin’s Creed saga celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2022. For the occasion, we’ve ranked the canonical episodes from best to worst.

This 2022, Ubisoft is celebrating the 15th anniversary of one of its strongest brands: Assassin’s Creed. Infinitely available from the very first opus (spin-off, movie, etc.), built around a community of loyal fans and not going to disappear, it will continue to evolve with Assassin’s Creed Infinity. The next episode triggered in 2021 will be a gaming service, a platform designed to evolve over time. We should know more next school year.

In November 2020, the Assassin’s Creed saga surpassed 155 million copies sold (cumulatively). A colossal figure that makes it one of the best-selling of all time.

On the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary, we decided to rank the canonical games from the best to the worst.

Our ranking of Assassin’s Creed games

1 – Assassin’s Creed II (Ezio Auditore trilogy, 2009-2011)

Assassin’s Creed 2. // Source: Ubisoft

The first Assassin’s Creed was a revolutionary concept with an unfinished aftertaste. Its continuation, soberly baptized assassin’s creed 2, was able to put to good use all its strengths around the three pillars that have survived to this day: an absolutely breathtaking setting because it is faithfully reproduced (Florence, Venice, Vatican, etc.); gameplay that combines stealth and action; a ton of things to do. Ubisoft even allows itself to play with history, repeating events (the Pazzi conspiracy) and inviting certain figures of the time (Leonardo da Vinci, turned into an inventor to serve as assassins).

In addition, when assassin’s creed 2 came out, we still believed in a metaverse invented by Ubisoft and articulated around a hero: Desmond Miles, able to relive the memories of his ancestors thanks to advanced technology (Abstergo). This episode also focuses on a charismatic hero: Ezio Auditore was entitled to two other adventures (assassin’s creed brotherhood as well as Assassin’s Creed: Revelations), making up a complete trilogy. No other hero has undergone such thorough treatment.

Can be played today : PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

2 – Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018)

Assassin’s Creed Odysseus I sat Origin of Assassin’s Creed What happened assassin’s creed 2 per Assassin’s Creed. Namely: the total and relentless improvement of well-established foundations. Odyssey makes the most of the opportunities offered by a new generation license formula inspired by modern RPGs (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt). Some would say that this is no longer Assassin’s Creed, but that would be to forget that the essence of the franchise lies, above all, in its ability to take us on a journey to an ancient era with desired authenticity (here Ancient Greece). It’s also a melting pot of everything Ubisoft has been able to come up with in recent years.

First of all, you must hold on to complete Assassin’s Creed Odysseusbecause the content makes you dizzy.

Can be played today : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

3 – Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017)

Origin of Assassin’s Creed this is an episode of redemption. After years of pulling the rope, at the rate of one ambitious episode a year, Ubisoft has hit the wall head-on. Therefore, the French firm needed to act to restore the image of its strong brand, otherwise it would annoy the players even more. The developers took a very simple approach: take your time to rethink the basics. That’s why we had to wait two years before playing Origin of Assassin’s Creed, which above all has its idyllic setting (Egypt and its wonderful pyramids). Then he started a real renaissance, with mechanics that look more towards the RPG side.

Can be played today : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

4 – Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (2020)

With regard to technical advances, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the best. Logically, because it is the most recent and the first to benefit from the capabilities of the latest consoles (PS5, Xbox Series). However, this is not as convincing asOdyssey as well as origins due to some form of stagnation (combats remain refineable) and due to being too spread out in content. Except, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at times it feels like it’s no longer a real Assassin’s Creed, with very few elements reminiscent of the metaverse and lazy writing.

Can be played today : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

5 – Assassin’s Creed Unity (2014)

We may be a little chauvinistic to express Assassin’s Creed Unity so high in the rankings, as it is something like an opus on a swing – the one from which the feeling of fatigue began to arise. In the press, its Metacritic score did not exceed 70 out of 100 (PC), while its predecessor still exceeded 80 (still on PC). This prevents Assassin’s Creed Unity remains a feat in its ability to plunge us into the very heart of the French Revolution. And what could be more exciting than walking on the rooftops of Notre Dame de Paris? Yes, Ubisoft had eyes bigger than her belly with Assassin’s Creed Unity, hence the incalculable number of bugs. But we really want to be chauvinists.

Can be played today : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

6 – Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag may act as an anomaly in the Assassin’s Creed saga, as it’s more of a pirate game. You have to accept it as such to appreciate it, with gameplay centered around naval combat in the Caribbean (the scenery is absolutely gorgeous). In terms of atmosphere, the golden age of piracy has an undeniable charm, especially for fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Finally, the hero Edward Kenway easily rises to the pedestal of the most charismatic characters ever devised by Ubisoft.

Can be played today : PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

7 – Assassin’s Creed III (2012)

Assassin’s Creed III suffers from the perfection of Ezio Auditore’s trilogy. If in 2013 it remained a generally successful experience, then this is not the one that we most remember when drawing up a balance sheet. As a bonus, this was the episode that killed the concept of a Desmond Miles-focused meta-story – a modern-day hero who dies at the end (hell twist). Please note that we are playing Connor Kenway, the grandson of Edward Kenway, the main characterAssassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and another ancestor of Desmond Miles. That’s when Ubisoft lost us a bit: so the fourth installment goes back to a more distant past than the third, while remaining focused on the hero of the present, who should be dead (Desmond Miles).

Can be played today : PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

8 Assassin’s Creed (2007)

Somehow cruel to put the very first Assassin’s Creed very low in the rankings. Without him, Ubisoft would not be where it is today. However, in the end, this is only a draft for a bright assassin’s creed 2, which goes beyond a recipe with much more delicious ingredients. Great care forAssassin’s Creed ? This is an overly repetitive gameplay consisting of killing targets by collecting multiple clues while investigating. From one goal to another, we get the impression that we are always doing the same thing, and yet there is not that feeling of freedom that allows us to breathe.

Can be played today : PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

9 – Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (2015)

Assassin's Creed Syndicate

Whether Assassin’s Creed Unity the fall of the old formula began, Credit Syndicate Assassins took over the blow. However, he had an argument: we are playing twins (female, male) in a London city marked by the industrial revolution. We move from one to another depending on the missions. On the other hand, this new release fails to hide the lack of freshness in the overall structure of the game, as it was also released in 2015 when flagship games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Where Bloody. In other words, it’s time to evolve.

Can be played today : PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.

10 – Assassin’s Creed Movie (2016)

Information about the film

Without a doubt, one of the worst film adaptations of the video game saga, where Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard exchange bewildered, enamored looks at a despicable photograph. There is really nothing to save in this film, it is too serious to become a booze. Let’s hope the series planned for Netflix pays more homage to the gaming world.
