LUDOBIO, a 5-in-1 play box to raise children’s awareness of organic farming

Education plays an important role in understanding various environmental issues and this is understood by the association Bio Consom’acteurs. The association Bio Consom’acteurs created LUDOBIO to raise children’s awareness of topics such as food, health and environmental protection. With this box of 5 activities, the goal is to approach the principles of organic farming in a fun way while raising other issues related to biodiversity, animal husbandry conditions or nutritional balance. Julie Pottier, director of the association, tells us more about this educational project. Opening!

Who are you and what do you do?

I am Julie Pottier, director of the association Bio consom’acteurs since 2017. When I joined the association, LUDOBIO was out of stock (500 games were released in 2015). I then proposed to the board of directors that they relaunch this tool with a crowdfunding campaign. This allowed us to fund an update to the game and print 1,000 new boxes.

Since then, we have created a real educational project and developed a sequence of activities in primary schools to raise awareness among children aged 6 to 12. This sequence is called “From Field to Plate” and was built as part of the “Our Climate Committed Canteens” project.

Can you introduce us to LUDOBIO?

The LUDOBIO game is an educational tool created in 2015 by the association Bio consom’acteurs. It was designed to meet the need to raise children’s awareness of sustainable and quality food.

This play concept, unique in France, was developed in collaboration with nutritionists to raise awareness among young people of the principles of organic farming in a playful way by addressing issues of biodiversity, organic animal rearing conditions, as well as cross-cutting topics such as nutritional balance, sensory awareness, taste awareness. and recognition of food families.

This educational tool offers facilitators and teachers a fun solution to allow them to discuss topics related to organic food and agriculture, as well as related environmental and health issues.

Why did you decide to go on this adventure?

When I joined the association, I saw that LUDOBIO could fill the need for tools to raise awareness among the youngest. To talk about food, facilitators and teachers often have to create their own events or materials.

What message do you want to convey through LUDOBIO?

In collective eating, and in particular in school canteens, there is a shift towards healthier food systems. However, children are poorly aware of the updraft and are often devoid of receptivity.

There is also distrust of the proposed dietary changes and food waste, which are still too high. That is why it seems necessary to combine this transition with the application of an educational approach built around the LUDOBIO game, under the guidance of a trained speaker, in order to maintain and maintain the local dynamics that have already begun. Moreover, educators often lack the knowledge or tools to discuss these topics.

Who are LUDOBIO games suitable for?

We aim to promote LUDOBIO and, in particular, present it as an educational tool for educators who are sometimes difficult to reach in our networks.

This tool is sold online, in particular on the Dream Act and Kurioz platforms, or directly by contacting Bio consom’acteurs. We offer LUDOBIO Discovery webinars and share activities and materials created in the field-to-plate sequence for free.
