It’s always a good day to prove that video game music is right, but June 21st is even better. Today is music day in Europe and we decided to celebrate it by choosing a few pieces that excite us the most in this sector. Ringtones, songs and BSOs also related to current events, with recent or upcoming releases. Because besides the musical games and their curious evolution, each story is fraught with many chords that can make us dance, cry and vibrate with emotion. Which ones are happening to you?
Final Fantasy VII – Tifa’s Theme
The Final Fantasy saga is full of great soundtracks, and this year, as Final Fantasy VII celebrates its 25th anniversary, we couldn’t stay with another. Especially since Square Enix just announced several remakes, remasters and reboots of the game in question. And sorry, but we’re talking about the FFVII OST and we automatically think of Tifa. It is to listen to its chords and immediately be transported to a starry night, a night of promise that neither its heroes nor we will ever forget. A song about longing, unrequited love and home.
The Last of Us – Way
And we move from one broken promise to another, from Joel to Ellie, to the world and to the belated motif of his crusade. The recently announced The Last of Us remake is acutely relevant again this Naughty Dog masterpiece. True, his first comparisons with the original cause some controversy, but the work of Gustavo Santaolalla is beyond doubt. It is very, very difficult to stick to the topic, but we will choose the Path. The heartbreaking punctuation that plays during the end credits as the screen fades to black and we stare at our reflection on the TV, unable to believe everything that has happened in the previous hours.
Persona 5 – Life will change
The arrival of Persona 3, 4 and 5 on Xbox will bring many users the benefits of the Atlus saga, including, of course, its soundtracks. Persona 5 Royal will be the first to hit Game Pass next October, so we’re going to be picking out some of her flashes of musical genius. Moreover, we will not choose him, but his own fans. At the time, Atlus organized a community poll, and Life Will Change was voted the best song in Persona 5. A mess of personality proclaiming rebellion and a desire to change society. There is no better theme for ghost thieves.
Cuphead deserves all the accolades it gets, but admittedly most of it misses out on the soundtrack. They tend to focus on their ongoing homage to 1930s animation and skip over an equally wonderful section. Now that the Delicious Last Dish expansion (of which we already know the price, duration and content) is out, it’s time to make a name for yourself. Especially knowing that DLC will raise the bar and it will grow from 65 musicians in the base game to over 110. Cuphead’s best soundtrack is Floral Flury. Not only is this Christopher Maddigan’s most popular song, it was also featured in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and even has a behind-the-scenes look, unlike Whiplash.
Elden Ring – main theme
With so many GOTY’s from the past on the list, we couldn’t close it without one that is committed to making this 2022 so memorable. Only a main theme like Elden Ring can lift the mood to try again and again (and again, and again, and…). This is listening to the track of Yuki Kitamura and Tsukasa Saito and coming out on top. We can enter the Midlands on our own. And even challenge Guardian Agestra!
